Twisted Crypt Review

Twisted Crypt is located at 5420 E. State Street, in Rockford, Illinois. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $22 for fast pass. This haunt is located inside a strip mall area where there are no other businesses next to it other than an Uncle Nick’s in front of the haunt. So Twisted Crypt is not that hard to find when you pull up to it. Especially when you see the hearse they have in front of the building.

Twisted Crypt is a very interactive haunt. It is unique from the other haunts that we go through. As soon as you walk in, you meet some very interesting characters. In the first room is a kitchen area with two men. One is cooking dinner while the other is sitting at the kitchen table. They were eating intestines, and I could smell them. It was disgusting! I still can’t get the smell out of my nose. After a while they started arguing with each other to the point the one that was cooking started choking the guy at the kitchen table! This was wild to see, these two were really getting into it. The realism didn’t stop there.

The next room was one of the funniest moments I had walking through. It was these 2 girls arguing and one of them was tired of the other girl talking so she used her hands to show she was talking too much. They interacted with everyone in our group, and I loved it! One girl wanted to keep one of us, but the other said no. The girl got really sad and said, “this is why I can’t have nice things…”.

Now we can keep going on and on with what we experienced, but we will just keep it to ourselves so you can have some experiences of your own. The point is, this haunt is REALLY into getting the customers involved. You’re not just walking through the haunt, you are part of the show as well. Each experience is different, and each interaction is different, so nothing is scripted! So you can keep going back and it will always be different. The characters even followed us in some of the rooms, even when we were leaving. That was the creepiest part…knowing we were being followed.

My favorite part was the middle of the haunt when they were telling jokes. My favorite one: what is a skeleton’s favorite instrument? You’ll have to go to find out the answer! The Halloween Blast owner got scared fairly early on in the haunt and I really love that they have great scares so quickly into the beginning of the haunt that can still get even our most seasoned of reviewers. That’s another thing about Twisted Crypt. I said how they put on a show, but remember they are still a haunted house and just as you get comfortable, they will definitely remind you. They will throw you off and scare the pants off of you and that is what happened to us. We were having so much fun that we forgot it was a haunt, and they made us pay for it. Like I said, they got the owner not once…not twice…but THREE times and he doesn’t scare easily.

All in all we enjoyed Twisted Crypt along with all the scary and funny moments. Twisted Crypt is celebrating 10 years in the business this year which is very impressive. We love seeing haunts that have been around for years and visiting Twisted Crypt, you can see why they’ve been around so long. They entertain you, but then make you scream as soon as you get too comfortable. If you have never been to Twisted Crypt, then you are missing out. It is not like any haunt in Illinois, it’s a very unique experience. So come celebrate 10 years of Twisted Crypt. You might have a frightening good time!

Old Joliet Haunted Prison Review 2023

Old Joliet Haunted Prison review

On September 29th, we visited The Old Joliet Haunted Prison. The prison is located at 401 Woodruff Rd. Joliet, IL 60432. There is free parking for this event and as you pull up to the prison there are signs directing you to the parking lot. The price for the haunt varies, depending on what day you go and what type of ticket you wish to purchase, so it is best if you check their website to see how much tickets are on that day. Once in line, we met a few line actors who were very interactive with customers, especially our newest team members who have never been to a haunt before. One of our reviewers was told by a hitchhiking prisoner it was okay to cry, they would just lick the tears off their face.

This haunt was broken up into 3 parts and took about 35 minutes to walk through. Cellblock 13 was the first attraction. Here we walked through some outside scenery and worked our way to the back to eventually end up in the prison walking past the old cells. One thing that stood out for me was the amount of open space where you would think surely someone must be waiting to jump out at you, but rarely is that ever where the scare came from. I could feel the suspense building as I walked past each open cell, always wondering what lies behind each doorway. Some of the cells have surprises in store for you. Just as you think a cell is empty, you realize the previous one wasn’t as empty as you first thought.

The second section is a zombie laser tag! I was very excited for this part, as I wasn’t expecting an interactive portion. While explaining the instructions, each member is given a laser gun to shoot with while walking through. Something I wish they would add in the future might be more actors in this section, both for scare factor and so there is more to take aim at. While this was a nice break from the intensity of the haunt, it was relatively short and empty. I had the most fun in this part of the night and I hope next year they bring a little more to it.

The final part is the slaughterhouse. What stood out the most here were the sections of complete darkness or overwhelming lights throwing off your vision. While these were interesting to walk through, I felt like a good majority of the walk was dark or extremely vision impairing. There were definitely some good scenes and actors in here, but it is mostly set to be disorienting. Overall, if you can handle the disorientation and gore, it’s so worth it!

At the end, outside of the attractions they have an open area with seats, cornhole, merchandise, and a bar. A few actors pass through here in between working the line, but for the most part it’s a scare free and fun filled area to relax and grab a drink. This was my first time at The Old Joliet Haunted Prison, and I can’t wait to see what they bring next year!

13th floor (blackout)

Blackout is a 1-day event where monsters and mayhem lurk in total darkness. Upon arriving, each group (not each person) is given one glow stick. Venturing into the depths of darkness, a horde of monsters roam freely. You may catch a glimpse of them under the glow of black lights, but don’t let them see you first, as they may steal your glow stick leaving you in the dark.

Dungeon of Doom (sub-thermal Nightmare)

Dates: December 15 and 16

Time: 7pm-11pm

Sub-Thermal Nightmare is unlike any winter event you’ve experienced. The Legendary dungeon of doom haunted house has been hit by a freak blizzard, creating a frozen wasteland where everyone is left to fight for shelter from this hellish storm. However, no one could have prepared for what the storm brought with it.
This two night only event will completely transform the entire  legendary dungeon of doom haunted house into something unrecognizable. Our entire attraction will have hell frozen over, entirely new characters, a unique “gateway” show, a unique “buried Alive” show,  and every room will be transformed into a frozen wasteland creating a drastically different environment and experience.

Massacre Haunted House

  • Posted by admin in empty on November 5th, 2019

Halloween Blast went to Massacre Haunted House, located at 299 Montgomery Road, Montgomery Illinois 60538. By the way! They have free parking in a parking lot in front of the haunt. They are located in a small strip mall, so there is a lot of extra space for parking as well. General admission tickets are $25.99, Fast Pass Online is $35.99, and buying a Fast Pass on-site is $39.99.

When you get in line, you will see all these creatures wandering around. You might even run into our good friend Bobo! If he really likes you, he might even give you a cool sticker! Also, you may run into Stikky Mouse. If you call him Mickey Mouse, you will be in big trouble! Stikky Mouse is really entertaining. He made us worship the devil and he asked us what our sins were. My boss confessed that I pushed over Japes (from Lost Souls Chicago, he is good friends with a lot of people at Massacre). Stikky Mouse berated me for pushing over Japes! As soon as that happened, he had everyone started chanting “Japes pusher” at me!

As you walk through the haunt, beware of the goat! If you get too close it will BITE! Something funny I found was Pinchie the clown. You better show him some love! Pinchie the clown made David say I love you and he didn’t say it loud enough so he made David scream it so the world could hear him. A really cool thing they have is a 3D room I love how everything sticks out. I won’t say anymore because you have to see it for yourself but 1 thing I wish they had was plastic glasses not paper. Paper glasses had a hard time of staying on my face. So try your best to keep your glasses on.Also beware of the slithering demon he has a really long tongue. He might slither along the walls and scare you if you don’t catch him first. Also be sure to wear comfortable shoes you will be walking on uneven ground and bridges that move. This haunt was very interactive and I really enjoyed that a lot. I definitely laughed and got scared. I hope you enjoy this haunt as much as I did.
